New Years Eve is Exhausting!

Can we all agree that New Years Eve is exhausting, especially with children? Let me just start with that. Our friends of almost 20 years have always held a New Years Eve party at their house where we all bring our best appetizers and desserts, hang out and talk about how much has gone down this year and what we are planning for the next. We let our children play together, who have now multiplied beyond belief between the 6-7 couples we have kept in contact with from school, friends of friends and church throughout the years.

We love these people so much for their friendship and help they have extended us and our children when we needed it most. This type of friendship isn't something you find everyday, around any corner. These are lifelong friends that we hold dear and have a past with a mile wide...Inside jokes, unspoken understandings and bonds and a comfortable ease that cannot be replaced.  We talk to them usually daily, if not weekly and even if the occasional week or two does go by without catching up its like no time at all has passed by when you do finally get back together! New Years Eve caps off each year as the cherry on top of the already wonderfully sweet ice cream Sunday that is our Hungry Wagon, as we often refer to each other...To say we all love to eat is an understatement!

Children do however make this time a little difficult. We used to stay together well past the ball drop but now we tend to get started early, around 5, so that there is plenty of time to hang out and head for home around 8-9 PM. By this time we all need some well deserved rest after breaking up toy fights and making sure the kids all have something to eat besides cookies and Christmas candy. We get our kids into bed as quickly as we get home and try to stay up to watch the last hour or two of Dick Clark's Rockin Eve without my eyelids closing. Aaron normally tries to convince me to pop in Star Wars and Watch the Death Star blow up at the stroke of midnight. We have done both in years past...

Coming back to keeping my eyes open. This normally does not happen... I don't care if its 20 minutes til midnight they usually end up shut by then or just before. I have tried and tried to change this and it wouldn't be such a big deal if my husband hadn't started his now notorious NYE Peeper Pictures... what is this you ask...A picture is worth a thousand words...

2015 and 2016...

Yes that is myself and my children all asleep in different locations in the house with a scary, wild eyed man (my husband) taking our picture.

2017
Every year it gets a tad bit more creepy...

Thanks Babe for the awesome Facebook posts every year... If i could sleep with one eye open I would, but it's obvious I can't.
